White or dull radius edge: causes and remedies

After milling and scraping, the radius often looks pale or dull. The causes – and how tools, scraper and the right finishing bring back the gloss.

White or dull radius edge: causes and remedies

Especially with plain-coloured edges it is noticeable straight away: after processing the radius looks paler or duller than the face of the edge.

Typical causes

  • Too large a chip at the profile scraper – with ABS edges it should be very small
  • Blunt tools on radius cutter and scraper
  • Cold edges or panels during processing
  • Missing or incorrectly set finishing

Remedies

  1. Sharpen or replace tools and reduce the scraper chip.
  2. Use Lc 2/30 or iClean before the buffing wheels – it removes fluid and glue residue and supports an even finish.
  3. Choose buffing wheels or polishing rings to suit the edge and change them in good time – e.g. cloth polishing rings or Cotton-Sisal-Wave.
  4. Alternative with more contact area: BRUSH-tec® E or ES with BRUSH-tec® agent.

Tip: printed decor edges tolerate slight whitening better than plain-coloured edges.
