Maintaining the spray system: clogged nozzles, porous lines, nozzle replacement

If a spray unit fails, it is often only noticed at the edge. Warning signs, maintenance interval and when a complete replacement of nozzles and lines pays off.

Maintaining the spray system: clogged nozzles, porous lines, nozzle replacement

Nozzles, hoses and bottles are wear parts. Over time lines become porous, seals leak and nozzles clog. The tricky part: it is often only noticed when edge quality drops.

Warning signs

  • uneven spray pattern or drops instead of a fine mist
  • suddenly glue residue, chips or residue again at one position
  • fluid leaking at fittings
  • compressed air audible without fluid being delivered

What we recommend

  • Regular visual check of the spray pattern, e.g. at shift change
  • Monitoring with the Spray Monitor
  • Complete overhaul instead of individual repairs when several components have aged: renew nozzles, hoses and bottles together
  • After replacement, restore the position with the nozzle gauge

Replacing a nozzle – step by step

For the Ultra-Thin nozzle, first release the pressure at the CLOU®: simply open the cap on the CLOU®. Do not switch on the CLOU® while the fluid line is disconnected.

  1. Disconnect the air hose at the nozzle.
  2. Disconnect the fluid hose: when replacing the complete nozzle set, remove the hose upstream of the non-return valve. When replacing only the nozzle, remove the hose directly at the nozzle.
  3. Loosen the M10 nut on the nozzle and remove the nozzle.
  4. Fit the new nozzle or nozzle set in reverse order and reconnect the hoses.
  5. Align the nozzle to the workpiece using the matching nozzle gauge (premium two-substance nozzle or Ultra-Thin nozzle), then tighten the M10 nut.
