Many problems on the edge banding machine – residue on the panel, high consumption, uneven effect – are caused not by the fluid but by the nozzle setting.
What matters
- Projection and distance: the nozzle must be positioned so that only the edge area of the workpiece is wetted.
- Angle: the spray cone points at the edge area, not onto the surface or against the feed direction into components.
- Quantity: as little as possible, as much as necessary – a fine, even mist.
- Spray timing: programme lead and lag time so that the workpiece is fully wetted.
Basic setting according to the data sheet
- Starting point: turn the nozzle spindle or knurled screw clockwise to the stop (fluid supply closed), then open it by 17 clicks. Clockwise = less fluid, anticlockwise = more. The detent makes every setting repeatable.
- Compressed air: premium two-substance nozzle at least 3 bar, Ultra-Thin nozzle at least 5 bar.
- Ultra-Thin nozzle: the atomising air is set at the throttle screw (slotted screwdriver: right = closed, left = open).
Reproducible instead of by feel
With the nozzle gauges for the premium nozzle and the Ultra-Thin nozzle, the position can be restored quickly after maintenance or a nozzle change – also by colleagues on other shifts. For hard-to-reach areas there are lances for the Ultra-Thin nozzle.
Monitoring in operation
The Spray Monitor monitors the flow of each nozzle, so a failure is not first noticed on the finished part.
