Cleaning agent before buffing: what it does – and why more is not better

The cleaning agent before the buffing wheels loosens fluid and glue residue so the wheels can absorb it. Too much saturates the wheels and makes the result worse.

Cleaning agent before buffing: what it does – and why more is not better

Before the buffing wheels or the flat scraper, a cleaning agent is sprayed onto the upper and lower edge areas of the workpiece – at LcM® this is Lc 2/30 or, VOC-free, iClean.

What the cleaning agent does

  • It loosens previously applied fluids (e.g. release agent) and loose glue residue.
  • The buffing wheels pick up the loosened residue and polish the edge.
  • It also cools the edge band and the glue joint.

Why more is not better

A common misunderstanding: if the result is not right, the quantity is increased. But too much cleaning agent saturates the buffing wheels – they then spread residue over the panel instead of absorbing it and can re-dissolve fresh glue at the joint.

Better this way

  • Check spray pattern and nozzle position – the fluid belongs on the edge areas, not on the surface.
  • Check the condition of the buffing wheels and change them in good time.
  • Alternative to the buffing unit: BRUSH-tec® E or ES with the matching BRUSH-tec® agent.
