If streaks or a fine film appear on the panel surface after the edge banding machine – especially on dark or textured decors – the cause is rarely the release agent itself. In practice it is almost always setup and wear.
The most common causes
- Wrong nozzle projection or angle: the fluid does not only reach the edge area but spreads onto the surface.
- Too much fluid: more release agent does not work better – it leaves residue.
- Worn or saturated buffing wheels: they spread fluid and glue residue over the panel instead of absorbing them.
- Parts pushed across a wetted surface – e.g. on return conveyors.
Step by step to the cause
- Switch off the buffing unit for a test and check the pure spray pattern on the panel.
- Check and correct nozzle projection and alignment with the nozzle gauge.
- Reduce the spray quantity until the edge areas are just evenly wetted.
- Check the buffing wheels and replace them if necessary. For double-motor units, a cloth-sisal flap wheel followed by a cloth polishing ring has proven itself.
Set up correctly, no disturbing residue remains on the panel.
